Sentencing the most Significant Defender of Mubarak’s Regime in a “Hisbah” Case in the Post-Revolution Era ANHRI Refuses the Sentencing of “Tawfiq Okasha” due to accusations of insulting the President

Cairo  24 October 2012
ANHRI strongly refused the sentence, Monday, issued by the district court of Esna, of imprisoning “Tawfiq Okasha” owner of the channel of fraain and its anchor, for 4 months in jail and a bail of 100
EGP to stop the execution until the appeal. In addition to a 501 EGP as temporary civil-compensation in Case no. 9839. He was accused of  insulting Dr. Mohamed Morsi, the President of the Republic in the episodes of the program “Egypt Today” that was broad casted in July and August of the last year on the channel of fraain.

It is noteworthy that this lawsuit was filed by the member of the dissolved parliament, “Nasreddin Maghawri,” despite the absence of any capacity or direct interest to him which make it  a new political Hissbah Case.

ANHRI stresses on holding, all those involved in crimes against the Egyptian people or corruption cases,  into account. ANHRI rejects the media violations committed by “Tawfiq Okasha” and channel fraain in addition to the lies broad casted by the channel.  But at the same time it renews its refusal to trials of freedom expression and political Hisbah and refuses this sentence.

ANHRI says “we completely and categorically refuses the continuing imprisonment in the publishing cases and our disagreement with Tawfiq Okasha will not make us accept such sentences that restrict freedom of expression and we hope that this harsh sentence could be revoked in the Court of Appeal”.
