Palestine: Torturing the Prisoners of Nafaha Desert Prison and Injuries of 30 Palestinian Citizens by Rubber and Live Bullets

Cairo January 3, 2013

ANHRI strongly condemns the raid of the prison of Nafaha and torturing the Palestinian prisoners and inspecting them by force by the security forces affiliated to prison department.

ANHRI also condemns injuring more than 30 Palestinian by rubber and live bullets due to the confrontations conducted after the raid “Tamon” in the south of Jenin and arresting an activist from the Islamic Jihad by the Israeli forces.

The special units affiliated to the Israeli prisons department have invaded the Nafaha prison, section 4 and 2 on Sunday correspondent December 30, 2012 and ordered the prisoners to be inspected.

In related context, 30 Palestinian were injured by live and rubber bullets which fired by the Israeli occupation forces in addition to 100 were suffocated as a result of the tear gas bombs in Tuesday correspondent to January 1, 2013 during the confrontations took place after the Israeli forces invaded “Tamon” located in the south of Jenin in addition to arresting a Palestinian activist.

The occupation troops have destroyed a house of a citizen from Jerusalem due to the lack of permits, despite the occupation forces didn’t notify or warn him before destroying his house.

On Wednesday the occupation forces on January 2, 2013 injured his eye due to a tear gas bomb during the confrontations that took place after the special forces affiliated to occupation in the mentioned municipality and the arrest of “Mourad Bani Awdaw”, one of the activists in Islamic Jihad.

The Israeli settlers assaulted the unarmed Palestinian citizens in the west bank and Bark Souliman area in addition to the destruction of the landmarks of the “Beet Amr” the town in the North of Khaleel.

The occupation forces waged a wide arrest campaign to include several citizens in varied places which resulted in the arrest of 9 Palestinians citizens from “Fagar, Bait Amr, Saair and Salwan”, in addition to building several barriers in the entrances of several towns.

ANHRI said that “the occupation forces insist on ignoring the international law and legitimacy in the light of the confound silence of the international society in addition to abusing the treatment of the prisoners in violation of the international agreements on protecting the prisoners and civilians as well as the persistence on invading the prisons and abusing the prisoners, will worsen the situation in the Palestinian territories”.

ANHRI added that “the use of the rubber and live bullets by the Israeli forces to disperese the protest broke-out in the Palestinian territories, is a serious violation to the freedom of expression and to the simple basic human rights, which Israel drawl of it”.

ANHRI called on Israel to oblige by the agreements stipulated in the international agreements in respect of the rights of the prisoners;  Third Geneva Convention, 1949, the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions of 1977, Additional Protocol II to the Geneva Conventions of 1977 and the Common Article no. 3 of the Four Geneva Conventions.
