The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said today that  Judge Abdel Fattah Mourad enjoys impunity despite being charge with assault on the intellectual property, as he reproduced  dozens of pages of the report of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information and published them in one of his books. Impunity  encouraged him to fabricate more cases against the Arabic Network and Hisham Mubarak Law Center ,HMLC,  though he was  proven to have fabricated two earlier cases.

However, AlKhalifa misdemeanor court will consider the fresh  case # 8260/2009  on 22/5/2010 in which Mourad is accusing  Ahmed Seif and Gamal Eid of “insult, libel, blackmail and abuse of internet service” .

While cases filed by this judge process quickly , the communiqué  submitted by Gamal Eid on abuse of intellectual property in April 2007 is still in the drawers of public prosecution.  It seems that justice in Egypt turns a blind eye on a judge abusing rights of others and violating the law when he should be trying to prove his innocence!

This judge has previously fabricated an insult and libel case against  Gamal Eid and the bloggers, Manal Hassan and Alaa Seif  in 2007. All three were acquitted  on first instance and on appeal as the court was certain of fabrication. In addition , the administrative court rejected a case where he demanded to block 49 websites for allegedly harming the reputation of Egypt, after the court found out that those were the very sites to have exposed Mourad’s violation of law and his infringement on intellectual property by reproducing  dozens of pages of the report of the Arabic Network without reference to the source.

Gamal Eid, Arabic Network for Human Rights Information director said,  ”If there is a party or parties supporting this judge, and process his fabricated cases quickly enough and refer them to  courts while hindering the case of the Arabic Network against him, we stand for our right and our credibility among the people. We will not give up on punishing Mourad. If the law actually ruled in Egypt , the prosecutor general should not have hesitated to reveal  the truth through a fair and transparent investigation and announced its findings. Instead , this judge feels free to fabricate cases  avenging our exposing of his crime of assault on our intellectual rights and reproducing our material in a commercial book”.
