Dr. Rola al-Saffar No. 11 in the top 500 Arab characters

Dr. Rola was No. 11 in the classification organized by “Arabian Business” magazine for the strongest 500 personal in the Arab world for 2012. Dr. Al-Saffar is an important symbol for human rights in Bahrain and the Arab world where she was one of the 20 Bahraini doctors and nurses who were sentenced to prison for 15 years and were subjected to humiliation and torture when the police tried to force them to confess the “doctors plot” to overthrow the government.

Dr. al-Saffa is a 49 years old president of the Bahrain Nursing Society. She has been accused with a group of doctors and nurses; all specialized in their fields, of turning al-Salmaneya hospital in the capital Manama into a base of insurgency. Dr. al-Saffa studied in the United States with a long list of degrees and medical qualifications. Now she is waiting to see if she will be arrested to begin her sentence before hearing her appeal that she submitted to the court on last October 23 after she spent 156 days in jail.

The story is cited from “Arabian Business”.
