For the Second Day in row .. the Arrest Continues against the Prominent Opponents in the UAE, the number of detainees rises to 24

The Campaign, which started three months ago, is the fiercest  against the civil and political liberties

The Arab Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI). Denounced, the continued arrest campaign, which has launched by the UAE authorities, recently, against number of the opposition activists and freedome advocates. On the dawn of this day, Tuesday, July 17, the  authorities arrested  the known and active lawyer in the field of human rights Dr.”Mamedalrkin” and his son, “Rashid Alrkin”. The Authorities also arrested, “Nusseibeh Abdullah Al-Hajri,” late in Monday evening.

Dr. Alrkin is a member of the International Bar Association, law professor at the Emirates University and other universities. He  has a known record in defending human rights and holds a Ph.D. in constitutional law. He was arrested, previoulsy, on 2006.

After that arrest, the number of the detainees risen in two days to 10, most of them are members of “Islah” the islamic movement, ANHRI published a release yesterday about 6 detaniees at least.

The testimonies of the detainees’ keens and friends asserted that the authorities did not arrest them in accordance with the law. They added most of the policemen were wearing a civil costumes and did not show their patches or the court orders of arrest. Furthermore, the campaign included the storming and inspecting the houses while there were some who were just arrested from their work.

Such arrest started after two days of the General Attorney’s statement, in which he said that “the authorities arrested a group of people, without the disclose of any of their names or number, because of establishing and managing an organization aims to commit crimes against the state security, as well as accusing them of being affiliated to foreign organizations and agendas.

A lot of followers believes, that the authorities are trying to launch a false media campaign aims to discredit the political opponents in conjunction with the arrest, to ease the criticism directed to the authorities through the coverage on the real reasons for their arrest, which is; the raising their voice by criticism, expressing their opinion, calling for political and social reformation in the UAE.

In the same context, “Saleh El- Zofiry”, was committed to the Security of the State Prosecution, after the news spread about being released, but reports asserted that he was committed to the Security of the State Prosecution.

On last May,”El-Zofiry” was one of the detainees of the first group  of “Islah” movement, with Sheikh “Saleh Sultan Qasmi”.

News reports said that “the authorities closed a center for child-raising consultancy in “Ajman”, and managed by the detained “Ahmed El-Shibah”,

ANHRI said”Emirates response to the Arab spring through suppression and autocratic”. It added “instead of starting the reformations, they conduct more arrests, after a few months of “Omar Suleiman”, the previous intelligence manager, arrival to the UAE, which rises the wonders about his role in this campaign.

ANHRI urges the Emirati authorities to fulfill its international obligations in respect of the freedom of expression and opinion, organizing, fair trail and also called for the release of all the political detainees as well as stop accuse them falsely.
