Cairo August 1, 2012

ANHRI condemns the excessive use of power and violence, by the Sudanese authority, to dispense school Students’ peaceful demonstrations yesterday July 31, 2012, in Nayala, which resulted in number of martyrs and injuries as well as arresting others.

The demonstrations started yesterday morning, when the Secondary schools, female/male, students’ and some primary school students’ walked out then joined by some of the residents, different ages, to protest against the poor economic situation and to rescue policies announced by the government.

Majority of the citizens walked out in the street of “Congo and Souk El-Malgah” before various residents joined the demonstrations. The protesters flamed the tires and set it in the main streets of the city in order to separate them and the security forces which used the tear gas bombs to disperse the protesters.

They failed to disperse the protesters, then the tear gas bomb ran out, therefore, the forces used the excessive power such rubber and live bullets heavily against them which led to more than 12 martyrs. Among them a three years old child, old man, two female students, more than 100 injures; most of them are students, and detain some others from their homes after the revolution eased. As quick development, the security forces opened fire from three military vehicles inside the headquarter “Nayala” during the funeral of a martyr which resulted in other injuries that led the protesters to burn some of the governmental entities and a gas station to protest against the rising of the fuel prices controlled by the security.

Since months and the Sudan witnesses demonstrations and protests for the rising of the food, fuel and some other commodities prices as well as the protest against “Bashir” rule.

ANHRI said “the excessive use of power and open fire, heavily and randomly, on the protesters prove that the Sudanese authorities careless about the Sudanese souls and they lied about the promises related to reforms, which clearly violates the freedom of opinion and peaceful demonstration”.

ANHRI said that “Bashir did not learn from his neighbors, countries of Arab spring, mistakes, he still uses violence to suppress the demonstrations which is the method which fails in all of the Arab spring countries.
