Cairo August 6, 2012
ANHRI condemns the UAE authorities threatens to the families of the detainees due to publishing details related to the process of arresting their sons on “Twitter”, to scandalize the serious violations conducted by the UAE authorities against their relatives.
UAE security body, according to what is mentioned by the The Emirates center for studies and media “EMASC”, called the families of the detainees and threatened them. It conditioned to stop blogging in oder to release their sons. Such threatens started after the campaign established by UAE activists calling for the release of the detainees, the families and activists from Gulf region, the Arab world and international activists participated in the campaign. The security body attempt to silence the voices using its power to black-out such violations, as well as publishing the details to their attempt to meet the General Attorney to know the reasons and the place of arrest but in vain. The General Attorney rejected to meet them, although it is lawful right and guaranteed by law.
During last period, UAE specifically as of June 16, 2012, witnessing un-precedent arbitrary arrest campaign included several activists and lawyers without clear reasons. The number of the detainees reached more than 50 detainees, most of them are members of “Islah Islamic Association” which call for political and social reforms in the country. Among the significant detainees in the recent period is the rights lawyer “Mohamed El-Roken” who was the main lawyer to defend the political detainees in the country. The arrest campaign conducted after the General Attorney declare of “the arrest of some terrorist group, works for foreign entities but no declared about it until now”.
ANHRI “the threatens against the UAE security, which controls everything in the recent period, as well as its threatens, of not releasing the detainees if they continued to condemn the practices and the serious violations conducted by the security, deemed to be a clear violation to the freedoms in the country, in which the public freedoms witness a serious backwardness in the recent period as result of the suppressive policy conducted by the UAE authorities and also creating new methods to harass the activists such as withdraw the nationality of some and deport others out of the country.
ANHRI called for “the immediate release of all the political detainees and change its policy in dealing with the activists, if it is serious to change its recent negative image”.
