ANHRI hosts a seminar titled “Human Rights in Bahrain before Geneva Review Microscope”

ANHRI organized a seminar titled “Human Rights in Bahrain before Geneva Review Microscope” yesterday. “Hisham Mubark Law Center and Bahraini activists participated in the seminar. The seminar divided into four axes:
First axis: it was entitled view on the prisoners of opinion and the verdicts issued recently in Bahrain. “Karim Abdul-raday the lawyer and researcher in ANHRI and Mohamed Shehatah the researcher in ANHRI” spoke in the seminar.
The speech included the violations that committed by the Bahraini regime to suppress the demonstrations which took place in the country since February 14, 2011. In addition to seek the help of the Saudi army and soldiers from UAE under the cover of the forces of the island shield, affiliating to the Gulf Cooperation Council. The seminar also addressed the wide arrests against the activists and oppositions which started on March 15, 2011. Most notably the activist “Abdulhady El-Khawajah”, the blogger “Abdul-Jaleel Sankis” and the political activist “Hasan Moshema’” who were sentenced by the national safety court in the group 21, who were sentenced by imprisonment sentences ranges from 5 to life imprisonment. The sentences were upheld after being mock trialed before civil court.
Furthermore, the axis addressed the legal prosecution of number of activists by false charges like the significant human rights’ activist “Nabil Rajeb”, who is imprisoned for three years due to allegation of calling for assembling and participation in marshes in addition to addressed the several violations took place in Bahrain.
The second axis: entitled the “the regular review in Geneva, where Bahrain stands” in which “Sohir Riad- Cairo Center for Human Rights” she spoke and addressed a brief on the regular international review which aims to “improving the situation of human rights on the ground through evaluating the situation of the human rights of the country under review” through include it in ” a report include a brief on how develop the review process, the conclusive notes, significant recommendations and the voluntary compliance of the concerned countries”. Bahrain was the first country to be reviewed by the Human Rights Council. The situation of Bahrain on the ground was presented by the report review. Then she addressed the situation of the government from the report of “Basioni” which did not implement any of its recommendations and she presented details on the session of the human rig
hts council related to Bahrain which started on May 17, 2012.
The Third Axis: it was entitled “view related to the ban of some activists from entering Cairo, the “Lawyer Omar Imam- Hisham Mubarak Center” addressed the ban of the activist “Nabil Rajab” from entering Egypt during April without reasons. Moreover, the ban of “Zienb El-Khwaja” from entering Egypt twice, the last one was on last August. This time the negotiations with the security bodies failed, it reached to threaten the lawyer “Imam” of being arrested in case of he insisted to let him to enter Egypt, which contradicts with the situation of the military council when the negations successes with the security bodies and let her enter the country.
The fourth axis: entitled “Panorama on the situation of Bahrain”, the Bahraini activists and the member of the Bahraini journalists association abroad- Hussien Yousef” spoke about the situation on the ground in Bahrain. He addressed several subjects related to the freedom of opinion and expression in Bahrain. Moreover, the use of the security forces from outside of Bahrain to suppress the demonstrations and the current torture process against the detainees.
After the end of all the axes the discussion was opened, the attendee questions were addressed by the participants.
