Iraq: ANHRI condemns the arrest of a journalist without judicial order and abusing him in Karbala

ANHRI condemns the arrest of one of the editors-in chief by the police forces on Saturday September 15, 2012. He was arrested for a long time without precedent judicial order. The matter that considers similar to a kidnapping process. The police arrested “Taha El-Robiey” the editor- in chief of “Sadah Karabala” and the member of the Iraqi Journalism Union. He was arrested, after the forces broke into the building of the newspaper, for six hours. The arrest was conducted without precedent judicial order. Then he was taken to the Abasyia police center after being insulted orally and dealing with him derisively. Moreover, they insulted him and the profession of the journalism. The police arrested him until the night shift- police station officer arrived, who mentioned an old case against him and was settled since a while, then he was released.
ANHRI said “the continuation of arresting the journalists and abusing them without charges or without precedent judicial order deemed to be a serious violation against the freedom of expression and a violation to the constitution of Iraq, which indicates that the Iraqi police does not respect human rights”.
ANHRI calls the Journalist “Taha El-Robiey” to file a lawsuit against the police to get back his dignity and also calls the Iraqi authorities to conduct an urgent investigation to identify the circumstance of the case and define the reason of such irresponsible behaviors of the police against journalists.
