Saudi-Arabia: ANHRI consolidates with the food strike of “Ra’ef Badwi” and condemns the extension of his imprisonment violating the law

ANHRI announces its consolidation with the Saudi activist “Ra’ef Badwi” who entered into an open food strike, protesting against arbitrary imprisoning him since three months.
The Saudi activist and the founder of the Liberal Network “Ra’ef Badwi” has entered into an open food strike, since September 15, 2012, protesting against arbitrary imprisoning him, since 90 days, which led to severe deterioration of his health.
On June 17, 2012 the security bodies in Jeddah, arrested “Ra’ef” due to an accusation of “disobeying parents”. The authorities said that he will appear before the court, but after that it was clear that the arrest was conducted due to the case of “Liberal Network”. He appeared before the criminal court in the same day. The general prosecutor called in the hearing to punish and rule against “Ra’ef” in accordance with Article no. 6 (paragraph no. 1) and Article no. 9 of the combating information crimes executive regulations.
The court pressed the charges of “violating the public order, violating the Islamic values, insulting God, insulting and mocking the religious figures including the grand Mufti of Saudi-Arabia. In addition, the case brought by his father of “disobeying parents”.
On August 12, 2012 the criminal court judge, in the second hearing, refused the request of “Ra’ef” to be released. The court ended the hearing without setting a date to be held again. The court said it will call “Ra’ef” later, without specifying that, to continue the trial and issue a verdict, which is a violation to the law that does not allow to imprison any one indefinitely.
ANHRI said that “the decision of the criminal court of ending the hearing indefinitely, contradicts with all the laws that allows such act in only releasing the defendant and the adjourning of the trial indefinitely, which did not happened in this case. He still under arrest in a clear violations to all the laws applicable in all the countries”.
ANHRI said that the Saudi regime held all the criminal liability in case of any health or physiological damages happened to him.
