Yemen: ANHRI calls the authorities to protect media freedoms

ANHRI denounces the confiscation of 5000 version from “Akhbar El-Youm” the independent newspaper by unknown group on Sunday September 23, 2012.
Unknown armed group confiscated nearly 5000 copies from “Akhbar El-Youm” the independent newspaper in the city of “Eden” before its distribution.
The confiscation of the newspaper more than once recently, raised a lot of reactions, as the freedom committee in the Yemeni Journalist Syndicate the confiscation of the newspaper in Eden and also condemned the irresponsible and hostile conducts against the journalism and journalists. It has also renewed its calls to stop the confiscation of the journalists.
ANHRI said that the “confiscation and the incineration of the newspapers more than once whether by unknown or governmental bodies and the arrest of the of number of journalists and assault them, deemed to be a clear violation to the freedom of journalism, freedom of expression and opinion and it threatens to shut down number of newspapers because of severe loses as a result of these works.
ANHRI calls the Yemeni governments to protect the journalists and newspapers, in addition to held the responsible of the confiscations and the incinerations of the newspapers accountable.
