Kuwait: the disperse of a peaceful demonstration by force and arrest of demonstrators

ANHRI denounces the Kuwaiti police assault on the demonstrators on the evening of Monday, October 15, in front of the National Assembly calling to do not change the election law and the arrest of some demonstrators while others were injured.

A group of former members (the majority) of the dissolved National Assembly, political activists, political trends and youth movements, after they refused the request of the Emir of Kuwait to stop seminars and gatherings until the end of the conference of Asian dialogue hosted in Kuwait, had organized a seminar “Square of will” in front of the National Assembly warning from the change of the election parliamentary law (with five circuits and four votes). This comes after the spread of news stipulating that, the intention of the authorities to change this law in an attempt to prevent the rise of the opposition forces represented in the Islamic movement again and to have majority. After the end of the seminar a march headed to the National Assembly to confirm assert on the request to do not change the current electoral law with a new one which will be in favor of candidates close to the government. The police forces have faced this peaceful march by force, using batons, which resulted in injuries to several number of the demonstrators and the arrest of 4 people who were accused of assaulting 25 police officers. In addition to another person who went to the police station to file a report against one of the officers who cause head injuries to him in the head with the baton, but he was converted from a complainant to accused.

In a related context the state security filed two a report to the prosecutor general of Kuwait against the speakers in the two seminars. They are the former members of the national assembly  “Salem Namlan and Mohamed Khalifa”.  The first seminar held in the region of Jaber Al-Ali and the second in Jahra. The reports stipulated the transcription of the seminars with number of 2 CDs of the two seminars. In addition to a request to call the names stipulated in both reports. The General Administration of the State Security demanded to press the charges of state security and other criminal charges on the names stipulated in both reports. The charges included assaulting the constitution and the attempt to undermine the regime. Moreover, the try to jump on the jurisdiction of the Prince, inciting to face the security men and incitement to assault on the security men.

ANHRI said that “the rising of the Kuwaiti use of violence to deal with the people’s of opinion and peaceful demonstrators prove the perches of the Kuwaiti authorities instead of consulting with them to recognize their demands they used violence with them in an attempt to silence the voices”.

ANHRI asserted on “the persistence of the Kuawaiti authorities to use the violence policy and security solutions proved its faliure in the Arab spring, are worthless in problem solutions and the demands that faces the authorities whill increase with violence and security solutions”.

ANHRI called the Kuwaiti authorities to immediately release all the detainees, guarantee their safety and respect the right to peaceful demonstration.
