How do you process your work?
Anhri. processes its work through three main methods:
In respect with covering the activities of other organizations affiliated to Anhri; we receive its publications through email, fax or by exploring the websites of such organizations (if any). Then we repost their publications and add a link to the website of the issuing organization.
In respect with freedom of expression, we practice some field activities, receive complaints and provide legal aid for the victims of freedom of expression violations; e.g. journalists, writers, editors and bloggers.
In respect with campaigning, we focus on certain violations such as freedom of expression violations or the violations affecting human rights activists. In this, Anhri participates with other local, Arab and international organizations or works alone.
On what criteria, you choose the countries to be covered?
Up to date, Anhri works on covering the activities of other human rights organizations n 18 Arab countries. They are: Jordan, Bahrain, UAE, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Qatar, Libya, Oman, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Tunisia and Kuwait.
The Arabic Network for Human Rights information (Anhri) seeks to expand coverage circle to include Mauritania, Somalia and Iran.
Does Anhri. practice any field activities?
Yes, Anhri practices field activities; particularly in relation with Freedom of Expression and Campaigns through working at courts, field visits and fact-finding missions.
What are the main issues handled by Anhri?
Anhri handles the following issues:
Advocating the freedom of expression and supporting journalists
The right to exchange information and freedom to use the internet
Breaking the constraints that prevent action on thorny issues
Training in human rights education, and raising the capacity of human rights organizations to use the Internet.
Expanding the circle of workers and those who are interested in human rights, through attracting volunteers and youth to join the human rights parade.
When was Anhri. founded? What is its legal entity? What is its international position?
Anhri was founded in 2003, as part of the Arabic Portal for Human Rights with other organizations: Human Rights Education Associates in Boston, Human Rights Library of University of Minnesota and The College of Law of DePaul University; Chicago.
Anhri has been founded as a law firm upon Articles no. 55 of the Egyptian Constitution and Article no. 22 of The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Anhri. became a member of IFEX since February 2006.
What is the nature of your relationship with the Egyptian government, other governments and the non-governmental organizations?
Anhri is a legal, yet non-governmental organization. It has no relationships with the Egyptian Government or any other government.
Anhri is an integral part of the Arabic and International Civil Society; in particular the organizations of good reputation.
How is Anhri operated and what are its financial resources?
Like any other human rights organization; Anhri is operated in compliance with international conventions and the international humanitarian laws. However, Anhri staff (including researchers, lawyers, translators, IT experts and volunteers) maintains its independence and neutrality.
The financial resources of Anhri are based on the joint ventures with local or international organizations, and donations given spontaneously by individuals. In the main time, Anhri does not receive any governmental funding.
Why is Anhri interested in thorny issues? And what are thorny issues?
The thorny issues that Anhri is interested in handling are: death penalty, freedom of belief, the rights of minorities, financing non-governmental organizations and transparency, homosexuality, the rights of women in conformity with human rights standards, the values of tolerance and secularism support.
Anhri addresses these issues because neglecting them leads to massive violations and problems exacerbation, which cause a disorder that may not be corrected without dealing with all these issues on the table of dialogue.
How can I become a member of your team? How can I participate in Anhri's activities?
The network is not a member organization. It is an organization of professionals. It welcomes volunteers and those who are interested in supporting human rights values and likes to participate in our activities.
There are no conditions or limitations for co-work other than being committed to human rights values and standards.
I want to post an article on your website, what should I do?
Anhri encourages you to send us your article. Your opportunity to post your article on our website is based upon to what extent it focuses on thorny issues mentioned above. We publish the topics related to thorny issues without considering any red lines.
I need to complain about a human rights violation, what should I do?
We welcome your complains. If your complain is related to violating your right to the freedom of expression or your right to belief, we will try to help you as much as possible.
If it is related to any other violation, you may visit the website dedicated to Grievances http://humum.net/ . Humum.net is an initiative of Anhri to post the complains coming to Anhri email. We do not promise to solve all problems. However, we promise to do our best and to refer them to other competent organizations. You may send your complain directly to the competent organization.
How can I add a new website link to your Websites Directory?
Anhri has an important list of elite news and human rights websites. It is one of our services provided to our website visitors. We encourage you to add any link you find it compatible with the values advocated by Anhri. The link should not include any material that promotes for hatred or against human rights. We also expect the same from you; i.e. to add the link of Anhri website to your own directory.
What is Anhri's administrative structure?
Anhri is composed of: Advisory Body, Executive Director, Managing Director, Program Manager, in adition to specialized units; such as "Legal Unit, Technical Unit and Documentation Unit"
What is the extent of your responsibility for the topics published on Anhri. website?
Anhri is not responsible for the contents of the topics published by other human rights organizations or individual writers on its website.
Anhri's responsibility is limited to the topics posted under the name of The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information or Its Executive Director.
