Update in Regard of Cairo News Company (CNC) Case
The Court Suspended the Proceedings to 30th June, 2008

    Cairo on 16th June, 2008

“The Court of Boulaq Abu Al-Ela decided to postpone the review of the case filed against the Cairo News Company (CNC), until 30th June, 2008, for reimbursement of the civic claim fees.”, said the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information-anhri.net.

In past April, Mr. Nader Gohar the executive director of the CNC has been charged with two offenses: owning satellite transmission equipments and using it inside the country without a permit from the Egyptian Radio and Television Union, in addition to building and operating a communication network without permission from the National Telecommunication Regulatory Agency. Where the Prosecution General demanded punishment of Mr. Nader based on the articles 70, 72, and 77 of the Telecommunication Regulatory Law no. 10, year 2003.

The Arabic Network lawyers who were part of the CNC defense commission in this case, have demanded filing a civic claim against both of the Radio and Television Union, and the National Telecommunication Regulatory Agency, while the other defense lawyers pursued the subjective defense due to the judge persistence to proceed the hearing, rejecting the defense demands, except the civic claim oral request, before rescheduling the claim to the 30th June, 2008, for the purpose of the civic claim fees reimbursement.

“There was no need to bring this case to the court since the first place, it is only the security political scapegoating, throwing the responsibility on the CNC for the recent 6th and 7th April’s bloodshed in al-Mahlah. This happened as the authorities used to fabricate cases regardless of the justice and laws, and disrespect of ratified international covenants in Egypt.” confirmed Gamal Eid the executive director of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
