The Accused in 6 of April Events are Before the Penal Court of the State Security-Emergencies

The Supreme Penal Court of the State Security-Emergencies, in Tanta Appeal Court reviews on Saturday 9/8/2008 the penal case no. 5498 for the year 2008 criminal, second section- Al Mahla, registered under the no. 89 for the year 2008 (emergency), in which 49 people of Al Mahla workers including a lady( were arrested during the events of 6 April in Al Mahala, and accused of several charges, claiming their involvement with others in a more than 5 gathering, which would endanger the public peace, and for this purpose they had intended to commit some crimes of which damaging and destroying public buildings, properties, possessions and equipments set for public benefit beside some private shops. Some of them were charged of assaulting the police men and unauthorized possessing and holding of unready fire arms to be used in assaulting people, and fire bullets suitable for those weapons. Also they were accused of stone-throwing the trains and rail way equipments and facilities as well as endangering routes of the trains and land transportation vehicles.
The case was stripped of its political aspect, and termed as a criminal case, where the security could place in some “dangerous classified elements” among the accused persons, to deform the reality of this case, which has been made before by the security several years ago during the January 1977 Uprising, where they termed it as “Thieves Uprising”, but the Egyptian judiciary was more just, and no one overlooks the historical verdict issued in this case, clear cut the manner of the Egyptian judiciary the fair and just for freedoms and rights approving.
The Legal Aid Unit for Freedom of Expression of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, in coordination with Hisham Mubarak Law Center, Al Nadim Center, Al Hilaly Alliance for Freedoms in the Lawyers Union, the Democratic Lawyers Group, Hilali Foundation for Freedoms, the Intellectual and Expression Freedom Foundation, The Egyptian Association for Community Participation Enhancement, the Center for Trade Unions and Workers' Services, Association for Human Rights Aid of Prisoners, Legal Aid for Human Rights Group, the Arab Center for Judiciary Independence and Solicitation, Awlad Al Ard Foundation, the Coordination Committee for Trade Union and Workers Freedoms and Rights, Association of Justice Supporters, the Freedoms’ Committee in the Assembly Party, the Arab Organization for Criminal Reformation, The Arab Foundation for Support of the Civil Society and Human Rights, the Committee of Al Mahla Lawyers and the Egyptian Center for Women Issues Foundation, calls on all of the civil society organization and human rights activists, legal workers, to support the defendants and provide the legal aid for them.
