Ministry Of Interior Violently Bullies A Reporter Because Of His Campaign On Security Encroachments And Blunders
ANHRI Holds The Minister Of Interior Responsible Of Alaa Al Gamel's Safety.

    Cairo 12\7\2009

ANHRI condemns the organized attack led by some police officers against Alaa Al Gamel , reporter in Sout Al Ouma weekly. Security forces repeatedly stormed his house in Giza starting 30\6\2009, reaching the climax on 10\7\2009 and 11\7\2009 when they broke into Alaa 's house six times in less than 24 hours. Moreover they defamed him , spreading rumors in his neighborhood that he is wanted for crime.

Disclosing to ANHRI attorney , Alaa said ,"this blatant police attack started after my press campaign against extending service for some high ranks and relocating Generals (minister assistants) and other officers who have a proven record of blunders. The most important report had the title " Police Generals Promoted to 'Criminals' Rank". It was published two weeks ago".

Not only did the police officers intimidate and pursue this bold reporter , but reached out to his family as well. More than 35 five security service vehicles surrounded his house in his home village in Assiout claiming a search for hidden weapons , then the officers spread another lie that Alaa is wanted for assaulting a police officer in Cairo.

ANHRI states that it is a such a disgraceful act of the minister of interior to unleash his officers wild to bully Egyptians and smear the reputation of this reporter who just did his work and wrote about the ministry faults. ANHRI demands that if there were one single legal liability on Alaa , the minister should announce it otherwise the minister should leash back his officers and stop this bullying at once.

ANHRI expresses utter resentment of the security forces bullying of reporters who reveal facts to the public. ANHRI holds the minister of interior - in person- responsible of the safety of Alaa and of any harm done to him by police officers.
