Lubna Al Hussein Case Adjourned To 7\9\2009..Sudanese Security Assaults Female Supporters
ANHRI Resents The Attitude Of The Sudanese Security Of Dealing With Demonstrations And Asks The Government To Respect The Citizens Right To Express
Sudanese Police Aborts The Demonstration With An Egyptian Style Bullying Approach…

    Cairo on 4\8\2009

The Arabic Network For human Rights Information ,ANHRI, expressed utter resentment and refusal of the way with which the Sudanese security forces dealt with the women supporters of Lubna Al Hussein during her trial session today at Khartoum criminal court. The case was adjourned to 7\9\2009. Sudanese police assaulted the women demonstrators supporting Lubna though it was a peaceful demonstration requesting to cancel all the laws discriminative of women and oppressive of personal freedoms. Massive security besieged the court yet the media presence was intense.

The coalition of women's organizations calling for protecting Sudanese woman's rights constituting the initiative ( No To Oppressing Women) has called for this demonstration in which tens of women joined in front of the court in support of the Sudanese reporter facing 40 flogs ,accused of sensational dressing up.

Lubna's case has triggered a debate about the laws imposed by the Sudanese government for maintaining public discipline though the Sudanese people are negative on them as they are an insult to the Sudanese women.

Women demonstrators raised banners that read " No Going Back To Dark Ages". They repeated mottos against the general discipline laws that intervene with women's choice of apparel prior to riot police forces arriving with clubs to disperse the demonstrators.

Lubna's supporters were surprised when some Sudanese extremists held a counter protest stand in front of the court , supporting the trial and requesting the flogging of Lubna. They even joined the police in beating up Lubna's supporters. We can not help recalling the Egyptian regime style in voiding demonstrations by bringing security elements dressed in civil outfits counteracting the original demonstration.

Lubna was taken to court accused of "sensational" dressing up. The general discipline police considered Lubna's dressing up style a threat to the Sudanese society values and virtues. This accusation has only one punishment; 40 flogs in public according to the article # 152 of the Sudanese criminal law of 1991. This is considered a revenge of the reporter for her opposing writings to the government and to the extremists.

ANHRI requested the Sudanese authorities to respect the right of the Sudanese people to demonstrate peacefully ,stop the oppressive practices, stop assaulting demonstrators and respect their right to express.
