Prince Ismail waived the verdict in his favor issued on 30/10/2009 against Tawfiq Bouachrine editor of "Akhbar A-Youm" and Khaled Kadar the cartoonist at the same newspaper.
The Prince’s decision was a result of considering the apology submitted by Bouachrine and Kadar.
The court of first instance in Casablanca had convicted Bouachrine and Kadar for expressing disrespect to the Prince and participation. The court sentenced both to 3 years probation ,a fine of 50000 dirhams and a compensation of 3 million dirhams credit to the prince .The first instance ruling was upheld by the appeal court on 22/12/2009.
Rabat Court of Appeal today upheld the first instance ruling against Ali Anozla editor of AlOula paper sentencing him for one year probation and af fine of 10,000 dirhams and a three year probation and fine of 5000 dirhams against Buchra Daow , journalist at the same paper .
Anozla was accused of publishing false news in bad faith, allegations and participation as per articles 42 and 68 of the Moroccan press code, after the paper had published an article about the king’s illness on 27/8/2009.

Adel Hammouda fined LE 10000 for exposing personal life of Ahmed Ezz and Shahinaz Najjar.
On 26/12/2009, misdemeanor court of Agouza fined Adel Hammouda, editor of “Al Fajr” weekly, LE 10,000 the case filed against him by Ahmed Ezz the National Democratic Party leader and his wife Shahinaz AlNaggar , former MP, people against the former chief editor and Chairman Dawn newspaper on charges of exposure of private life, the court decided not to accept criminal and civil suits for claiming indemnification II "Shahinaz carpenter" to an earlier chapter in the civil lawsuit by the Court of North Giza, for the plaintiff to a civil fine Hammouda the first 10 thousand Egyptian pounds and expenses, and publication of the verdict in the Official Gazette and the innocence of the second defendant, "Nassif Cosmas" The prime Board of Directors of the newspaper, which was assigned to the charges.

On 22/12/2009, the misdemeanor chamber of court of appeal in Casablanca determined 29/12/2009 for announcing the verdict in the daily newspaper “Akhbar AlYoum” case , in which the editor, Tawfik Bouachrine, is prosecuted on the charge of "participating in insulting the national flag" and Khaled Kadar , the cartoonist at the same newspaper , on "insulting the national flag."
The court also refused the defense petition to join both cases in one, whereas the prosecution requested maximum penalty, after the appeal court has endorsed the ruling of first instance.
The misdemeanor chamber of court of first instance of Casablanca sentenced Tawfiq Bouachrine and Khaled Kadar to one year probation ,a shared fine of 100,000 Dirhams and the permanent evacuation of the paper’s premises.
The court also charged the defendants with all the expenses of the proceedings, which the ministry of interior has started against them.
The ministry of interior has decided to prosecute the newspaper and to seize the issue of 26, 27/9/2009, for publishing a cartoon of the celebration of the royal family describing it as “an event of a very special character”.

The Specialized Algerian Court (the court of the State Security), headed by Judge Radwan al-Namer, postponed the trial of Fouad Rashed, the editor in chief of al- Makela Press, and the activists and journalists Saleh al-Saqaldi and Mohamed al-Rabizi to 14/01//09. Judge Radwan refused to the defense attorneys who were barred from entering the court and were only to enter after the session ended.
The prosecution presented their argument against the defense claiming that the three journalists “conspiring for a revolution and working for the separation of Algeria”. However, the three journalists and activists should be tried for what they wrote not according to the allegations of the prosecution. Evidence presented by the prosecution came from hacking into the journalists e-mails.
The defense body has called for the case to be transmitted to a more specialized court. It has also called for changing the locations of detentions of the journalists to the detention centers in the capital, Sana’a.
According to a statement by Human Rights First, The Saudi authorities blocked the website of the Saudi Liberal Network. The organization denounces this arbitrary blocking and calls the authorities to lift the ban of the website immediately.

One deceased, many wounded in clashes with security at “Ezbet AlHaggana” area in Egypt.
One person was killed and dozens injured, including police officers and 15 recruits on Wednesday 15/12/2009 at 2:30 pm in clashes with citizens during a campaign to demolish houses at “Ezbet AlHaggana” east Cairo, Egypt.
The troops that clashed with hundreds of residents was accompanying a campaign to demolish 28 blocks, that authorities claim were illegally constructed at that area. In Nasr City district.
The clashes resulted in the death of the citizen Hussein Mohamed Ismail, 60 years, who died of severe beating , as well as 100 injured who were taken to hospital.

Kuwaiti authorities banned the Egyptian thinker Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd from entering the country to participate in a number of cultural seminars hosted by the “AlHewar” center and Women Cultural Social Organization in Kuwait. Both organizations invited Abu Zayd, where he was scheduled to participate in the symposium on "Religious reform in a constitutional state and the symposium," Women between Koran and jurisprudential thought. "
The fierce attack against Abu Zayd was waged by Islamist Kuwaiti MPs , refusing his visit to Kuwait and accusing the inviters of deliberately provoking the Kuwaiti society.
Imprisonment and a fine for the blogger Bachir Hazzam and mates
On 15/12/2009, Qelmim court of first instance sentenced the blogger Bachir Hazzam to four months, and Ali Abdullah Kufwa to one year in prison and a fine 500 dirhams for each.
At the same session , the court sentenced Abdul Aziz AlSalami, Ahmad Hibi and Chwais Mohammad to six months and a fine of 5000 dirhams.
It is worth noting that the trial has been attended by masses of security forces and supporters of the blogger such that the court room got full , leading about a hundred and fifty people from human rights activists, bloggers and journalists to wait outside. A defense team consisting of 25 lawyers attended on defendants’ side.

Fining editor of "Hetta” magazine and the closing appeal adjourned to 6/1/2010.
UAE appeal court adjourned the case of Ahmed Bin Gharib, editor "Hetta Online" magazine regarding the sentence to fine him 20,000 dirhams ($5500 U.S).
The case was filed by Chairman of the Abu Dhabi media company due to comments on an article that were considered by the complainant and the prosecution as insult and libel.
After the sentence has been issued , the prosecutors demanded imprisonment of Bin Gharib and a bigger fine and requested to close down the magazine.
The case dates back to an article published by the magazine in its issue No. 55 on May 4, 2009, http://www.hetta.com/new/news.php?do=view_subject&id=&ids=78 The journalist Enas Borini criticized the management of TV channels in the UAE, but the chairman of Abu Dhabi Media considered comments on the article as insult and libel . He filed a complaint which in turn to be the case number 8585/2009 on 14/6/2009.
On 7/9/2009, the court fined the editor of "Hetta" 20000 dirhams claiming he was responsible for comments posted on his site. The date for the appeal has been set on 12/10/2009.

Update : Wael Abbas is released from Cairo Airport after being detained for an hour
The customs management at Cairo Airport detained the blogger, Wael Abbas, for an hour after arriving at Cairo airport at 1 pm on the 13th of December 2009. The blogger was coming from a conference in Beirut and was detained for having a book entitled “how to overcome internet censorship?” Abbas was giving back the book after the officers flipped through it and read parts of it and at 3:30 pm, Abbas was released. The legal department at the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) is concerned about the harassments that the blogger has been put through by security forces lately.
The State Security forces stormed Wael Abbas’s house on December the 13th, 2009, at 11 am. They asked Abbas’s mother about Abbas’s place claiming that they have a judicial decision against him. Abbas’s mother said that she refused to open the door for them because she was all alone; however, those officers broke into the house. Then, they searched the house without showing her a search warrant. Abbas’ mother added that they were trapped by four police cars and around 20 men from the security forces for around an hour.

On 15/12/2009, the administrative judiciary court of the state council, the first chamber of individual disputes , holds the first session of the conditioned release claim of the blogger Kareem Amer having spent three quarters of his term and yet no release order was issued in his favor. The claim was filed by ANHRI Legal Aid Unit against both the interior minister and the prisons department manager as per their capacity .
The claim has two requests

To immediately stop the implementation of the negative decision of the defendants not to conditionally release the prosecutor ,consequently be liable to all expenses and to bind them to execute the release order according to its draft without having to have a decision warrant.

Security surrounded Al-Jazeera channel vehicle , driven by Reda Shaban, Al-Jazeera correspondent in Lower Egypt . Security ordered the crew to lift their camera after arrival to the scene of two sunken Nile ferries. Two loaded police vehicles escorted them 4 Km out of Rashid. Al-Jazeera TV crew was unable to take any pictures or run interviews with anyone.
The Court of Appeal in Casablanca on 1/12/2009 decided to postpone the case of “Akhbar AlYoum” newspaper , where Tawfik Bouechrine , the editor , and Khalid Kadar, the cartoonist to 2/2/2010 are the defendants.
The deference was due to the absence of the parties, as the Court of First Instance has issued in November 2009, two sentences of one year probation against Bouachrine and Kadar a fine of $ 100 thousand dirhams for both after being convicted of insulting the national flag and participation as well as the permanent evacuation of the newspaper premises.
The court also ruled in a another case a three year probation and a fine of 50,000 dirhams for each and a moral compensation of three million dirhams for both defendants after being convicted of disrespecting the prince.

Zagazig prosecution of police station II released Ahmed Mohamed Alaa, Mostafa Ragab Ibrahim, Islam Hanafi and Saad Ibrahim who were arrested in a protest stand in front of the police station objecting the arrest of Aya Mohamed Eid with reason after allegations that her brother was wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. Lawyers of ANHRI legal aid attended the investigations with the four young men.
